The Palestinian presidency condemned the Israeli new settler project announced, on Sunday, by Israel’s new Israeli Defense Minister, Naftali Bennett, in Hebron’s wholesale market area, the Palestinian News and Info Agency reported.
The president, Mahmoud Abbas, affirmed that this Israeli announcement represents the first tangible result of Trump administration’s attempts to legitimize settlement activity, which is a prelude to full annexation.
The presidency said this Israeli plan constitutes a blatant violation of international law, UN resolutions, and signed agreements, slamming it as a new provocative step that is totally rejected.
President Abbas held the Israeli government fully responsible for the crimes committed against the Palestinian people, calling on the international community to promptly move to stand in the face of these Israeli measures, and take concrete steps in response to this Israeli escalation, starting with a comprehensive boycott of Israeli colonial settlements.
Finally, the president reiterated once again that the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only solution to achieve peace, security, and stability in the region.
